Sensor Tower store intelligence shows the revenue rankings of Chinese mobile game publishers in the global App Store and Google Play in December 2020. There are 30 mobile game publishers on the list with a total global revenue of US$2.16 billion in December, accounting for 29% of the current global mobile game revenue.
Compared with December 2019, the revenue of Top30 Chinese mobile game manufacturers has increased by 45% in the past year. Although Covid-19 has brought a lot of dividends to online entertainment, global mobile game players’ spending on the App Store and Google Play increased by only 27.8% year-on-year, and the performance of leading Chinese manufacturers was significantly ahead of the market.

Top 30 Chinese mobile game publishers by revenue
With the opening of the New Year’s Eve event, NetEase’s “Fantasy Westward Journey” mobile game hit a record high in a single day since its launch on December 24. In December, the game revenue increased by 43% month-on-month, and led to a 16% increase in NetEase game revenue.
MiHoYo’s “Genshin Impact” released version 1.1 on December 1. The mobile game revenue exceeded $15.5 million on that day, breaking its own record while also breaking the single-day overseas revenue record of Chinese mobile games. With the launch of version 1.2, the game’s revenue once again had a cyclical peak. As of the end of 2020, the total revenue of “Genshin Impact” on the global mobile terminal is close to 560 million U.S. dollars, and MiHoYo has also become the world’s fastest-growing mobile game manufacturer in Q4 2020.
Thanks to the excellent performance of the Christmas event of Lord Mobile, IGG revenue increased by 15% month-on-month and 42% year-on-year, ushering in the highest revenue record in the past two years.
Following the success of “Jiangshan Beauty” (日代わり内室) in the Japanese market, 37 Entertainment launched its mobile game “Puzzles & Survival” in European and American markets to eliminate the theme of apocalypse survival. The revenue has steadily increased, becoming another revenue growth engine of this publisher. Driven by these two games, 37 Entertainment’s revenue in this period increased by 12% month-on-month and 124% year-on-year.
The match-3 mobile game “Project Makeover” under Magic Tavern landed nearly 26 million U.S. dollars in last month, surpassing “Matchington Mansion” and become the mainstream of revenue. The successful launching of “Project Makeover” increased the revenue of by 76% month-on-month and 160% year-on-year, and Magic Tavern ranked 39th in the global mobile game publisher revenue list.

In December, Hero Interactive Entertainment launched “PUNISHING: GRAY RAVEN” in Japanese market, and publisher revenue increased by 55% from the previous month and back to the top list.
